By Anthony Izaguirre | Associated PressALBANY, N.Y. — New York’s highest court on Tuesday ordered the state to draw new congressional districts ahead of the 2024 elections, giving Democrats a potential advantage in what is expected to be a battleground for control of the U.S. House. The 4-3 decision from the New York Court of Appeals could have major ramifications as Democrats angle for more favorable district lines in the state next year. Republicans, who won control of the House after flipping seats in New York, sought to keep the map in place. The state’s bipartisan Independent Redistricting Commission will now be tasked with coming up with new districts, which will then go before the Democrat-controlled Legislature for approval. Three numbers that explain the Warriors’ disappointing start

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 07:14:29 GMT

PHOENIX — The Warriors head into Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns with very few bright spots to soak up and plenty of issues to sort through. It’s only December, but in the standings they are on the outside looking into the playoff picture. The season is young enough that Golden State has time to situate themselves nicely in the standings with a good string of wins. But three numbers from their 10-12 start show where they’ve fallen behind and how they haven’t fallen to NBA pits yet.1. -22This Warriors team is built on the presumption that the four-time champion core can fend off age and still beat the lot. That’s meant coach Steve Kerr rolling with the same starting five that carried them to the playoffs last year: Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green and Kevon Looney. This five-man group had a +22.1 net rating that was among the league’s best, according to Cleaning the Glass, and outscored opponents by a total of...

North Carolina officer who repeatedly struck woman during arrest gets 40-hour suspension

A police officer who repeatedly punched a Black woman during an arrest in North Carolina last month was suspended Tuesday after authorities released new video of the encounter that showed a broader view of what happened than bystander footage shared on social media. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings told reporters at a news conference that Officer Vincent Pistone received a 40-hour suspension after an internal affairs investigation determined that he used excessive force during the Nov. 13 confrontation. The probe determined that six other officers involved were justified in their actions. The newly released body camera and bystander videos show different angles and what led to the encounter at a Charlotte bus stop that sparked public outrage. They show that the woman struck an officer in the face and that he responded by hitting her back and knocking her off her feet. Pistone, who was not the officer involved in that initial exchange of blows, is seen on the video ...

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — In the end, it didn’t matter what Manchester United did.Copenhagen’s 1-0 win over Galatasaray on Tuesday booked the Danish champion’s place in the knockout stage of the Champions League from second place in Group A and ensured that even a United win over Bayern Munich wouldn’t have been enough for Erik ten Hag’s troubled team.United, which lost 1-0 to Bayern, had needed Copenhagen and Galatasaray to draw to keep its hopes alive. The White House is warning that if new money isn’t provided by year’s end it will have swift consequences for Ukraine’s capacity to hold its territory, let alone take back land captured by Russia. Biden, speaking at an early evening news conference with Zelenskyy, warned that f...
