AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Dallas murder suspect died from a self-inflicted wound in Austin Sunday evening after attempting to get away from a Department of Public Safety trooper then crashing the car he was driving. DPS information officer Sgt. Deon Cockrell told KXAN troopers received information of a murder suspect, identified as Byron Carrillo, 21, driving south on Interstate 35 in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and tried to stop the vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Carrillo continued driving away from DPS, struck a concrete barrier, then crashed after taking exit 238, which is near U.S. Highway 290. According to DPS, he then ran on foot and stopped in a parking area where he fired one round from a firearm, hitting himself. He died from his injuries. Carrillo was suspected of a homicide that happened in the 9700 block of Royce Drive in Dallas around 4:20 p.m., according to a release from Dallas police. NBC 5...Cooler, drier air today

The Lake Elmo City Council on Tuesday is expected to hire a former interim city administrator to once again take on the city’s top job following the termination last month of city administrator Kristina Handt.The council voted 3-1 on Nov. 21 not to renew Handt’s contract, which expired on Nov. 30. Handt, who had expressed concerns about the site of a new Lake Elmo Elementary School because of issues regarding access to city water, had been city administrator since March 2016. Two Minnesota companies are recalling cut cantaloupe due to potential salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced.The cantaloupe products were sold at locations including regional convenience stores, delis and at Caribou locations at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.However, the recalled cantaloupe products are now past their “use-by” dates — so consumers are not likely to still find them for sale.Health officials say that consumers who purchased the recalled fruits and still have them should throw them away and wash surfaces that touched them with hot, soapy water or in a dishwasher.The Minnesota companies issuing the recalls are Bix Produce of Little Canada and Cut Fruit Express of Inver Grove Heights.Bix Produce of Little Canada, Minn., is issuing a voluntary cantaloupe recall. KINDERHOOK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Police responded to a fatal crash in Kinderhook on Monday morning that claimed the life of a 48-year-old from Stockport. Sophie Perez-Martinez was transported to Columbia Memorial Health where she passed away. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Police say the crash happened at the intersection of State Route 9H and County Route 25. Investigations determined that Perez-Martinez was turning left onto State Route 9H from County Route 25. Her vehicle pulled into the path of a 2015 Ford Utility heading southbound on State Route 9H.The driver of the Ford was evaluated at the scene and reported that he was not injured. Perez-Martinez had an 8-year-old passenger who was transported to the Albany Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.Police do not believe drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
