MONTREAL — On a night the Wild wanted to belong to Marc-Andre Fleury, the future hall of fame goaltender was just about upstaged by his teammates.Playing in what might be his last game in his native Quebec, Fleury added another win in his quest to catch, and pass, Patrick Roy for second all time for an NHL goaltender as Minnesota beat the Canadiens, 5-2, at Bell Centre on Tuesday. When it was over, and Fleury had made 26 saves, he received a standing ovation from the partisan crowd, bringing him back out of the tunnel for a rare curtain call for a visiting player.Joel Eriksson Ek scored two power-play goals, and Brandon Duhaime and Connor Dewar scored short-handed goals 26 seconds apart as the Wild improved to 2-1-0 despite playing a skater short in the wake of injuries suffered on this trip by Matt Boldy and Alex Goligoski.Kirill Kaprizov also scored his first goal of the season, and added two assists, and Mats Zuccarello finished with three assists. In his first start of the young s...Boys soccer: Park beats Rosemount in Class 3A, Section 3 final to book ticket to state

Park won the Class 3A, Section 3 final with a 1-0 victory over Rosemount Tuesday night. The win comes as a bit of an upset. The two teams met earlier in the season, a meeting that resulted with Rosemount dominating and taking the victory 6-0. Rosemount came into Tuesday’s championship game with a record of 12-3-2; Park 10-7-0.The first half was a battle of defenses, with neither team scoring before the halftime break. Both teams had a couple shots on goal in the first half — Rosemount even had a couple of attempts go off the goalposts, but neither offense could make it happen in the first 40 minutes. The 0-0 stalemate was broken in the 47th minute when Wolfpack senior midfielder Noah Haupt scored after his own deflected penalty kick rebounded back to him. From that point forward, the Wolfpack played extremely conservatively, determined to cling to the one-goal lead. The defense-focused approach in the second half proved to be enough as the Wolfpack marched on to win.Park coach A...Application window for adult use cannabis license extended

Colorado won’t officially join the Big 12 Conference until next summer, but the process of making the transition is already underway.Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark attended CU’s football game against Stanford on Friday at Folsom Field and said he’s been impressed with what’s coming into the conference next summer with CU, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah.“Since I’ve been in the role as commissioner, I’ve been really impressed by going from campus to campus and the investments that are being made in affording student athletes to be the best version of themselves,” Yormark told BuffZone. “You know, the brick and mortar part of it plays a huge role. This place is breathtaking and the investments they’ve made in the student athletes, not just in football, basketball, but all sports, I think is tremendous. So I’ve been very impressed.”Related Articles Tired of watching the Broncos lose? You’ve got options in Colorado. Published Thu, 21 Nov 2024 21:07:05 GMT
For years, the Colorado women’s basketball team has had to scratch and fight for wins and respect.Based on the national rankings released Tuesday, the Buffaloes now have that respect, but the fight to climb won’t change as they gear up for the 2023-24 campaign.Coming off its first Sweet 16 appearance in 20 years, CU landed at No. 20 in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches’ poll.“Honestly, I don’t really worry about that too much,” head coach JR Payne said at CU’s annual basketball media day on Tuesday. “We’ve recruited a bunch of players with these massive chips on their shoulder, people that were under recruited, they don’t have any stars next to their names out of the recruiting process, and we like it that way.“We have a bunch of players that love to be an underdog and love to be sort of overlooked and love to have something prove. Whether we were ranked No. 1 or not ranked at all, it’s just built in our DNA that we want to prove people w...Men’s basketball: Committee approach on the glass on deck for CU Buffs

As is almost always the case under head coach Tad Boyle, Colorado expects to be a strong rebounding team this season.Exactly who will lead that charge on the glass remains to be seen. More likely, and much like last season, it will be a rebounding-by-committee approach for the 2023-24 Buffs. On Tuesday at the CU Events Center, Boyle held court at Colorado’s annual basketball media day amid heightening expectations for his club. After being selected fifth in the Pac-12 Conference preseason media poll last week, the Buffs narrowly missed a spot in the AP preseason top 25 on Monday, finishing as the second program among others receiving votes.Freshman Cody Williams is CU’s most highly-touted recruit in decades, and he’s surrounded by a cast of battle-tested veterans led by Tristan da Silva. Yet in order to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021, the Buffs again plan to lean heavily on the Boyle-era tenets of defense and rebounding. In terms of the rebounding, the Buf...Chargers super-fan goes viral after loss to Cowboys on Monday Night Football

Despite the Bolts loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, one Los Angeles Chargers fan’s reaction to a game-tying touchdown caught the attention of ESPN’s cameras and now, the internet. With heartfelt expressions of excitement then despair and then back to excitement and yet another dive into despair, super-fan Merrianne Do led Bolts fans watching the game on television on an emotional journey. “It’s funny because I truly believe every fan feels this way. They just may not show it or wear it on their sleeve like I do,” Do, who had no idea she was on camera, told KTLA’s Shelby Nelson a day after the game. A Chargers fan for 20 years, Do says she regularly makes the jumbotron, but it was Monday night when cameras broadcast all that raw emotion for the world to see, making the season-ticket holder a viral sensation.
