DALLAS (AP) — Roope Hintz scored a short-hander on Dallas’ first shot and added two more goals after that, Evgenii Dadonov scored twice and the Stars beat the Minnesota Wild 7-3 on Wednesday night to even the first-round series at a game each. Dadonov and Hintz each scored their second goals of the game in a 48-second span late in the second period for a 6-3 lead. That was the last of three pairs of quick scoring goals in that middle period — two by the Stars that sandwiched an even-quicker scoring duo by the Wild.Hintz, who also had an assist, secured his first career hat trick with a power-play goal with just under eight minutes left, when Miro Heiskanen got his fourth assist of the game. Hintz is the first player with a short-handed, power-play and even-strength goal in a playoff game since Tyler Johnson did it for Tampa Bay against the New York Rangers in 2015. The Dallas scoring onslaught came against three-time Stanley Cup champion goalie Marc-André Fleury, who got the s...

There’s no one above anyone else. We’re just out there trying to win.”Antetokounmpo remained out for Milwaukee after leaving the Bucks’ 130-117 Game 1 loss early in the second quarter with a brui...

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Jesús Ferreira scored in the 81st minute on a counterattack that began when a Carlos Rodríguez’s shot hit off the crossbar, giving the United States a 1-1 tie against Mexico on Wednesday night in an exhibition missing most top players on both teams.Uriel Antuna scored off an American giveaway in the 55th minute. After Matt Miazga’s giveaway to Atuna led to Rodríguez’s shot off the crossbar, Miazga lofted the rebound from inside his penalty area to Sergiño Dest, who dribbled through the midfield and passed to Alan Soñora. Soñora sent the ball wide to Jordan Morris, who crossed toward a streaking Ferreira. Defender Luis Chávez tried to clear and the ball glanced off a foot to Ferreira, who directed the ball past onrushing goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo from 7 yards out for his eighth goal in 18 international appearances.Because the match was not on a FIFA international fixture date, just two Americans and three Mexicans started who had extensive playing t...

That's what happened!”The series shifts to Minneapolis for Game 3 on Friday night. The Nuggets recovered during a thrilling fourth quarter that began with Porter sc...

Low tech makes cleaner water in Iowa; so what’s stopping it?

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:40:04 GMT

SLATER, Iowa (AP) — Nick Helland’s central Iowa farm looks much like every other nearby farm on this chilly March day, with corn stubble stretching from a gravel road up over a low hill to the northern horizon. But look closely, and you can see patches of muddy ground where a few months ago crews buried low-tech systems called bioreactors and streamside buffers that filter fertilizer-borne nitrates from water as it drains from Helland’s field into nearby Big Creek and eventually the Des Moines River. The underground devices work. The question is whether one Iowa county’s promising new approach to an old problem can be expanded enough to finally address nitrate pollution that, for years, has endangered drinking water, made more than half the state’s waterways unfit for fish or humans, and fueled a giant dead zone nearly 1,000 miles away in the Gulf of Mexico.Polk County is doing it by making it painless for farmers — handling all the logistics and arrangements for the syste...

Michael Porter Jr.’s fourth-quarter eruption, Jamal Murray’s 40-point night give Nuggets 2-0 lead

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:40:04 GMT

Three-letter chants have been commonplace at Ball Arena this season, only this one sounded different.“M-P-J” boomed throughout the lower bowl in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s tense Game 2 playoff game in homage to Denver’s supremely talented sniper. Michael Porter Jr. dashed Minnesota’s hopes with an enthralling 13-point fourth quarter as the Nuggets survived, 122-113.Though Porter came alive in the fourth, Game 2 was Jamal Murray’s show. Without his stunning 40-point night, the Nuggets don’t head to Minnesota for Friday’s Game 3 up 2-0. Murray carved up the T-Wolves’ backcourt with six 3-point daggers and even more devastating dribble penetration as he went 13 of 22 from the field.“The kid is a warrior,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said, joking they’d need to carry Murray onto the plane to Minnesota after playing 39 minutes. If Game 1 was a reminder of Murray’s playoff credentials, Game 2 was a time capsule to his scoring eruptions in the Bubble.By...

The bond they felt, however, was immediate and they’ve been together ever since. The couple had dreams of becoming parents, but with Marlisse’s terminal diagnosis, the couple is now focused on enjoying the time they have left together to see the world and make memories.“Marlisse and I are devastated that we won’t become parents, especially since she was able to freeze her eggs prior to her diagnosis,” said Brock. “But time is no longer on our side. She wants to be well enough to care for our baby and be around to raise our child. But this is not in the cards for us. So we’ve decided to channel all of our energy into spending the time we have left focused on joy!”Two years ago, Ma...
